Are you a person of your word? Can I count on you? You know those questions all too well. A man/woman who keeps promises, who can be trusted is a person of their word. The expression uses “word” in the sense of “a promise or undertaking.” When people renege on their word, someone suffers; someone is hurt or disappointed. All I can say is - Your word is all you have. It is your bond.
