Released in 2018, The Black Panther Movie showcased Chadwick Boseman as King T'Challa, heir to the hidden but advanced kingdom of Wakanda. As the Black Panther, “T'challa must step forward to lead his people into a new future and must confront a challenger from his country's past.“
This was a Marvel Movie brought to life. This movie brought pride to many Black people because we imaginatively were transported to Wakanda. We felt pride in that imaginary Kingdom because it belonged to us. We were led by Chad Boseman as our leader. It was fiction that felt ever so real to us! It was for many Black children the first time that they had seen a super hero who looked like them. How incredibly remarkable!
Also in 2018, Boseman in his commencement address at his alumni Howard University showed his spiritual side quoting verses from Jeremiah and talking about God's purpose. Sadly, we lost Chad to cancer this past week, but he will forever reign as our Black Superhero, our Black Panther! With a gesture of our arms folded over our chests, we say, as they did in the movie, “Wakanda Forever!” Rest in Peace to Chad Boseman, our Black Panther!
