I was always told that “The guard dog never attacks where the master doesn’t know.” Don’t be fooled! The guard dog in some cases is not a four legged animal. It may be a person whose true motives are hard to discern. Let’s not forget the disguises. I remember the old folks saying, “Everyone bears watching!” All dogs have teeth that can bite. Don’t be paranoid, but reasonably stay on alert. Pay attention to your surroundings and the folks in your space. Never let your “guards down.” Follow your gut and your instincts! They’re usually not wrong! Photo credit: www.watchdogri.org

One of the worst things that you can do is to take someone's kindness for granted. It can be heartbreaking! I learned a long time ago that no one owes me anything! Showing appreciation to those who have help me along the way and particularly to those who bent over backwards go a long way. I have had several people who have given of themselves and didn't want anything in return. I have had others who gave and never reminded me of what they had done. How sweet it is! If you ever get confused over the concept of taking someone for granted, just ask yourself one question. Would you do for them what they did for you? Your answer will reveal the magnitude of your reciprocity and the spirit and generosity of their kindness. I am thankful for my blessings and the hands who have helped me through my journeys of everyday living. In fact, to use the words of rapper greats - Big Sean, Drake, and Kanye, "Way Up, I feel blessed!" You see, I don't take demonstrated kindness, consideration, or assistance for granted. I feel duty bound to help others as I have been helpEd... not to show off or even up the score, but to enrich another life. One good turn deserves another! I want to count my Blessings! Hebrew 13:16 tells us to not take things for granted and "to not forget to do good and share with others, for with such sacrifices, God is pleased."

It's been said, "Holding grudges can be just as damaging to the grudge-holder as the person who the grudge is being held against. Holding a grudge means that you are living with a feeling of anger almost constantly, even if it's below the surface"

What does this mean? I’m glad that you asked!

Holding a grudge is defined as " hanging on to intense anger or dislike for someone based upon a real or perceived wrongdoing."

Alright, don't act innocent as if you don't know what I am talking about. Most of us have held grudges before. Let’s be truthful. Admission is the first step. Right?

And ... If you have ever held a grudge, you can probably attest to the resulting harm that it causes. Like a plant, grudges take roots and grow like running vines attaching themselves to surfaces like an adhesive. This is why they are hard to shake and detach. Unquestionably, the process can produce physical and psychological damage. The repercussions can be great. Stress is bound to occur. Think about it. Keeping another person's acts of wrongdoing in your mind is totally unhealthy.

Letting go of the associated anger and dislike is the antidote; the needed cure. And when you do, it places you on the road to recovery as does forgiveness. Besides why waste your valuable time and personal space possessed with negative thoughts of others when undoubtedly they may not be thinking of you; not even remotely! You’re holding the grudge. You’re suffering. Not them!

Though difficult it may be, the release valve must be turned on!

As for grudges .... let them go! Sure it’s difficult to do; it’s work - but it’s well worth the tasks. We deserve the freedom that it will yield. Our mind, body, and soul will most definitely thank us!
