    THIS LITTLE LIGHT OF MINE

By Vernalee “This little light of mine” is a Negro spiritual regarded as one of the Civil Rights anthems. The lyrics are indeed inspirational.

“Some claim the song takes its theme from Jesus' remarks to his followers. Matthew 5:14-16 (the King James Version) reads : "Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." The parallel passage is found in Luke 11:33. Conclusively, the song reflects a global longing to be seen as a good person trying to make the world a better place.“ Many civil rights meetings in the 1960’s and 70‘s included singing “This Light of mine,” “ Go tell it on the mountains,” and ”We shall overcome” as all held hands for unity! We have always prayed to God for his love, mercy, grace, and covering! And he has always delivered us!

    Amen. Happy Sunday and Blessings!

OPEN THE EYES TO MY HEART

    By Vernalee

This song engulfs your soul. It's powerful message moves your spirit. The more we do the works of the Lord, the better off we are. To see things through God's lens gives us a wholesome perspective. It teaches us so much about sacrifices, love, and forgiveness. That is why we pray, sing, and ask the Lord to “open the eyes of our hearts” so that we can see him and his good works. Sometimes, we miss what is right before our eyes! We worship you Lord and give eternal praises to your Holy Name. Happy Sunday and Blessings.

    READING THE WORD

    By Vernalee

Some years ago when I was on my first journey of “Walking through the Bible” in one year, I vividly remember crying when reading the scriptures leading up to Moses’ death. I had grown so close to him. I felt as if I personally knew Moses. I recall calling my Mother to tell her of my sadness.

As I recently watched “The Ten Commandments,” maybe it was from visualizing Moses‘ character in the movie that made the memory all so fresh. Daily biblical reading and listening to spiritual messages provide an unbelievable closeness to God. It cultivates incredible faith. Thank you Father for your guidance. I wholeheartedly realize that God loves me, provides rules to protect me, and will never leave me. What an awesome feeling!
