Growing up, I remember the old folks saying, “He might not come when you want him, but he’s right on time. He’s an on time God.” Those words stayed with me; they resonated in my soul. As I aged and experienced more life occurrences, I started saying those very words myself.

My Mother was not an ordained minister, but believe me when I tell you this - that woman could preach; she could bring the word! Oh yes, she had a way of telling you things that you never forgot. She told me not once but over and over again, "Our God will never leave your side. Trust in him. She continued by saying -

He's a Burden Bearer and a Heavy Load Sharer.

He is a Heart Fixer and a Mind Regulator. He is the Alpha and Omega; the beginning and the end. No matter what you're going through, God will deliver you. Try him for yourself! You’ll never be disappointed. You’ll never be alone. Pray! And if you're gonna pray, don't worry. If you're gonna worry, don't pray. He'll hear your prayers whether you're in Mississippi or Ohio. You gotta have faith. Lay your burdens on him. He'll never leave you or forsake you!"

I say, “Thank you God for your love, blessings, protection, grace, and covering!

Thank you for giving me a praying Momma who taught me to stand on the Word; who taught me to trust in the Lord!”

What she taught me, I taught my children!

As a family, our love for you Heavenly Father has traveled many miles, crossed multiple states, and has been planted in our hearts - one generation after another!

Happy Sunday!

Can you recognize a phony instantly or does it take time? Most people will never admit to being phony because it is not flattering! Not at all! Who wants to say that they’re a fraud or not genuine? No one!

Being phony means saying one thing and doing another. It includes being exceptionally kind in the public, but mean spirited when not in the limelight. It includes professing to be holier than thou, quoting scriptures off the top of your head, attending church every Sunday, but not helping your fellow man/woman when you have ample resources to do so. Wearing blinders so that you can see only what you wish to view is part of the phoniness program; turning your head in the opposite direction is the other. Why be accountable is their thought? The true phonies may never admit who they are, but eventually their disguises are revealed. While they are busy fooling us, they forgot one key thing. One person sees all acts of pretentiousness, hypocrisy, phoniness, and selfishness.

God!

With him, no one can pretend. If you are bold enough to try, be my guest. Rest assured, you will be found out! Photo reprint: www.jacolynmurphy.com

“A still tongue makes a wise head” refers to a person who only speak when it has been determined that it is appropriate to do so. They are not chatter boxes and are wise enough to not just say whatever comes to mind. Being a good listener helps you to exercise control and discernment which will ultimately reflect good judgement.

My Mother provided me with wise counseling decades ago. “We have two ears and one mouth so that we can listen twice as much as we speak.”

Of course, it took me years to fully apply that wisdom. Admittedly, sometimes, we learn the hard way because we just want to do things our way! A still tongue also serves to protect and guard us against unnecessary conflict. Allow me to “Vernalize” this for you.

Simply put - Mind your business. Stay in your own lane. Guard your thoughts; guard your tongue. Be selective about what words come out of your mouth. Proverbs 17:28 provides wise advice: “Even fools are thought wise if they keep silent, and discerning if they hold their tongues.” It will behoove us to do just that!

Shhh! Did I hear, “The cat‘s got your tongue.” For some -– that’s a good thing! Silence can be golden! Photo credit: www.pininterest.com
