Since I've been swimming in a world of poetry this week, there is no better time than now to share and present one of my favorite poems. Yes, as women, we are phenomenal; right? So sit back today and take in the intoxicating words of our one and only Maya - Maya Angelou, that is!

Phenomenal Woman Pretty women wonder where my secret lies. I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size But when I start to tell them, They think I'm telling lies. I say, It's in the reach of my arms The span of my hips, The stride of my step, The curl of my lips. I'm a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That's me. I walk into a room Just as cool as you please, And to a man, The fellows stand or Fall down on their knees. Then they swarm around me, A hive of honey bees. I say, It's the fire in my eyes, And the flash of my teeth, The swing in my waist, And the joy in my feet. I'm a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That's me. Men themselves have wondered What they see in me. They try so much But they can't touch My inner mystery. When I try to show them They say they still can't see. I say, It's in the arch of my back, The sun of my smile, The ride of my breasts, The grace of my style. I'm a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That's me. Now you understand Just why my head's not bowed. I don't shout or jump about Or have to talk real loud. When you see me passing It ought to make you proud. I say, It's in the click of my heels, The bend of my hair, the palm of my hand, The need of my care, 'Cause I'm a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That's me.

The English idiom "don't judge a book by its cover" is a metaphorical phrase that means one shouldn't prejudge the worth or value of something by its outward appearance alone." People and things are not always what they appear, The outside may not reflect the inside. What you see is not always what you get! Besides, beauty is only skin deep. Don't be shallow! How a person treats you is major. It outweighs how they look.

Appearance is not always what it seems!

Remember that shiny, delicious, mouthwatering, enticing apple! Yum! It is so appetizing that it invites you to take a bite! The sweetness is on the tip of your tongue! Crunch! After you take a bite, you soon realize that it does not taste as good as it looks! Sometimes, the outside and the inside are totally different!

Apples and people; what's the difference! Alright, one is inanimate and the other, not! The apple doesn't react when you put it aside. Bite no more! People, well that's another thing! We can however find a ”bad apple” in people! And when we do ...walking away may not be as easy as the footsteps. If you find that a person who you thought was one way was incredulously toxic, cut your losses. Find the internal strength to walk away. Then, run!

Find comfort in the aged old saying, “Every thing that’s good to you may not be good for you!”
