JEALOUSY VS. ENVY

By Vernalee

Jealousy generally “refers to the thoughts or feelings of insecurity, fear, and concern over a relative lack of possessions or safety. Jealousy can consist of one or more emotions such as anger, resentment, inadequacy, helplessness or disgust.“

Envy is ”a feeling of discontented or resentful longing aroused by someone else's possessions, qualities, or luck.”

Given those definitions, I once had someone ask me which is worse - Jealousy or envy. I responded, “Both!” You don’t want to be associated with either unflattering description. The negative energy takes up too much time that can be productively used elsewhere. Why use your valuable time being envious or jealous about something or someone else? Those hours could be more wisely devoted to you. Besides, an investment in you is a better utilization of your time and energies. On the flip side, you cannot worry yourself when others are envious or jealous of you. Those are their feelings not yours!
